Light-EV pack builders need the right balance of energy density, cycle life, discharge current and cost. The 18650 and 21700 in NCM (for maximum range) or LiFePO4 (for cycle life and safety) cover most e-bike and e-scooter designs; larger 4680 cells suit bigger LEV packs with fewer interconnects.

Choosing a cell for an LEV pack

  • Energy vs cycle life: NCM packs more Wh per cell for range; LiFePO4 lasts more cycles and runs cooler and safer.
  • Discharge current: hill climbing and acceleration need adequate continuous and pulse C-rate — check the specific model’s discharge rating.
  • Matched binning: capacity- and IR-matched cells keep a series/parallel pack balanced and extend its life.
  • Certification: confirm UN38.3 plus destination-market coverage (CE / UL / IEC) before importing.
